Sotheby’s will offer the sole 1933 Saint-Gaudens double eagle licensed as lawful to own by the U.S. government in an auction set for June.
The coin is possessed by Stuart Weitzman, a noted fashion designer. The identity of this coin’s owner was a closely guarded secret until today.
The June 8 auction is made up of just 3 lots, and contains two great rarities in the philatelic world, according to Sotheby’s:”the British Guiana One-Cent Magenta, the most well-known and valuable stamp on earth; and The Inverted Jenny Plate Block, the most well-known and sought-after American postage.”
This is breaking news. Coin World will have more in-depth coverage afterwards.
