At least three people died and several others were injured in the accident of a regional train which derailed in the Bavarian Alps, in the south of Germany, announced Friday June 3 the local police.
Several carriages of the train connecting Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Munich came off the tracks at Burgrain, killing three people and injuring an “unknown number of other passengers,” Bavarian police said in a statement. “Rescue and evacuation operations continue apace” at the scene, police added. Help was also sent from neighboring Austria.
Photos published by German media show the wagons of the regional train lying in a wooded area in a mountainous region. Victims were taken care of on the spot by doctors. The cause of the accident and the exact number of injured are not known at this stage.
