Red Games Co’s Brian Lovell on Winning the Apple Design Award for Inclusivity

Mobile developer and publisher Red Games Co was awarded the prestigious Apple Design Award for their game, Crayola Adventures, in the inclusivity category this year. Since its launch in March 2024, Crayola Adventures has gained immense popularity, offering inclusive features such as full narration for non-readers and individuals with reading difficulties.

One of the game’s standout features is the AI-powered voiceover functionality, developed in collaboration with Resemble AI, which enhances accessibility and personalization. This feature supports over 15 languages with cultural localization, enabling players to express their creativity in their preferred language.

Crayola Adventures allows players to create and star in their own stories, offering a diverse range of character customization options including skin tones, abilities, and body types. Apple’s recognition of the game’s commitment to inclusive and gender-neutral character creation further validates Red Games Co’s dedication to diversity in gaming.

Brian Lovell, the founder and CEO of Red Games Co, emphasized that inclusivity has been a core focus since the game’s inception. He expressed pride in the team’s efforts to provide players with ample choices and flexibility to see themselves, their friends, or their family members reflected in the game’s imaginative adventures.

As recipients of the Apple Design Award and recognition as one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in Gaming for 2024, Red Games Co remains committed to pushing the boundaries of creativity and inclusivity in digital gaming. Their mission is to create a welcoming and inclusive gaming environment where all players feel valued and represented.

In addition to Red Games Co’s success, AYES, a Belgium-based company, claimed the top spot in the applications category with its oko app. The full list of winners of the 2024 Apple Design Award can be found on their official website.
