Sui Launches Dubai Hub for On-the-Spot Solution Engineering
Blockchain network Sui has established a hub in Dubai to support developers and entrepreneurs in the blockchain space. Kostas Chalkias, co-founder and chief cryptographer at Mysten Labs, the team behind the Sui network, shared the vision of making Dubai a hub for hackathons and blockchain solution implementation.
Chalkias, originally from Greece, emphasized the goal of bringing a team of solution engineers to Dubai. Drawing inspiration from the Greek war hero Leonidas, he likened the initiative to building an army of developers with exceptional skills. The hub aims to provide on-the-spot solutions to blockchain-related challenges, allowing for the rapid development of smart contracts in a matter of hours.
The collaboration with Ghaf Group, a local blockchain firm, highlights the commitment to fostering innovation in the region. The Dubai hub represents the first of many planned hubs worldwide, showcasing Dubai’s appeal to the Web3 community due to its clear regulations and streamlined licensing processes. Major crypto exchanges such as Binance, Crypto.com, and OKX have already obtained approvals to operate in Dubai this year.
While the UAE is a hotspot for crypto deals, Chalkias noted that the focus is now shifting towards actual development activities. The goal is to position Dubai as a center for hackathons and blockchain implementation, particularly in the government sector. The Sui network, developed by former Meta employees, has gained traction in the industry by surpassing competitors like Cardano, Near, and Aptos in terms of total value locked earlier this year.
“We are dedicated to building solution engineering capabilities in Dubai,” Chalkias stated. “Our aim is to invest in the region, bring engineering expertise, and foster innovation through regular hackathons that challenge participants to develop solutions within a short timeframe.”
The launch of the Dubai hub signifies a significant step towards establishing Dubai as a leading hub for blockchain innovation and development. With a focus on solution engineering and rapid prototyping, the hub aims to drive industry growth and technological advancement in the region. This initiative aligns with Dubai’s broader vision of becoming a global center for blockchain technology and digital innovation.
