Here’s the Thing About AI

But Here’s Where I’m Wrong
A colleague named Dave—real name, not anonymized, because he’s proud of this—told me about a project they’re working on. It’s using AI to predict hardware failures before they happen. I was skeptical. I mean, really skeptical. But he showed me the data. And it’s legit. So, okay, maybe there’s something to this AI stuff after all.
But here’s the kicker. The AI isn’t doing it alone. It’s working with human engineers, who are using their experience and intuition to guide the AI. That’s the part everyone’s missing. AI isn’t the magic solution. It’s a tool. And like any tool, it’s only as good as the person using it.
And look, I’m not saying AI isn’t gonna change things. It already is. But it’s not the revolution everyone’s making it out to be. It’s an evolution. And like any evolution, it’s gonna take time. And a lot of trial and error. And probably a few failures along the way.

I’m still waiting. But I’m starting to think maybe the pony isn’t the point. Maybe the point is the journey. Or something like that. I don’t know. I’m not a philosopher. I’m a tech editor. And frankly, I’m just trying to make sense of all this AI stuff.
