TRON DAO recently organized the TRON Builder Tour at Columbia University, bringing together blockchain experts, students, developers, and mentors for a day of workshops and discussions. This event aimed to foster innovation and education within the blockchain space, providing attendees with valuable insights and guidance.
The hackathon at Columbia University attracted over 120 students from prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Boston University, NYU, and more. Longtime developers and early builders in the TRON community also joined to help students with their projects. The event featured four tracks for developing decentralized applications (dApps): DeFi, Artistry, Integration, and Web3.
Winners were selected in each track, with projects ranging from transforming finance through decentralization to exploring the intersection of entertainment and blockchain technology. The Integration track prompted participants to integrate advanced protocols into the TRON ecosystem, while the Web3 track honored teams ushering in the transition from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0.
In addition to the TRON Builder Tour, TRON DAO is also hosting HackaTRON Season 7, a competition challenging innovators to create solutions leveraging the TRON blockchain. The organization is dedicated to accelerating the decentralization of the internet through blockchain technology and dApps.
Founded in 2017 by Justin Sun, the TRON network has seen significant growth since its MainNet launch in 2018. With over 263 million total user accounts, more than 8.6 billion transactions, and over $16 billion in total value locked, TRON has become a major player in the blockchain space. The network has also gained recognition for hosting the largest circulating supply of USD Tether (USDT) stablecoin globally.
In December 2021, TRON achieved full decentralization and became a community-governed DAO. The network was later designated as the national blockchain for the Commonwealth of Dominica, marking a significant partnership between a public blockchain and a sovereign nation. TRON-based tokens like TRX, BTT, and NFT have been granted statutory status as authorized digital currency in Dominica.
Overall, the TRON Builder Tour at Columbia University highlighted the importance of collaboration and education in the blockchain industry. By bringing together students, developers, and mentors, TRON DAO continues to drive innovation and decentralization within the space.
