The very influential ex-governor of Lagos, Bola Tinubu, won, on Wednesday June 8, by a clear majority (55.3% of the votes cast), the primary of the ruling party in Nigeria, thus becoming the candidate of the Congress of Progressives (APC) for the 2023 presidential election.

“I declare Bola Ahmed Tinubu as our party’s presidential candidate in the upcoming elections of 2023,” announced Atiku Bagudu, the primary election officer.

Bola Tinubu won 1,271 votes, according to the tally of ballots from some 2,300 APC delegates counted at the primary venue in Abuja, the capital.
